Jack Falvey, Radio Station Owner, Dies
John Daniel Falvey, of 110 East Pennsylvania avenue, owner and operator of radio station, KBIZ, died at St. Joseph hospital at 6:30 p.m. Friday. He would have been 50 years old on April 10. Mr. Falvey suffered from heart disease, had recovered sufficiently at one time to resume his business, but suffered a second attack last fall and had been confined to the hospital and his home since. He was born in Easton, Pennsylvania, April 10, 1894, the son of Donald and Katherine Falvey. He survived by his wife, Elizabeth. Mr. Falvey came to Ottumwa in the spring of 1939 to organize the radio broadcasting firm. The station opened in April of 1941 and he has operated it since, although he was in the process of transferring it to a purchaser at the time of his death. Mr. Falvey was a member of the Ottumwa park board of the American Legion, Elks club, Kiwanis club, Chamber of Commerce, the Eagles, and the Ottumwa Country club. During the first World war he served as a lieutenant, first in the Canadian Air Force and later in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Lester Jay funeral home in charge of the Rev. Malvin H. Lundeen and the Rev. Harold Roberts. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn cemetery with military services at the grave.
