Funeral Tuesday For Amos J. Shinn

Funeral services for Amos J. Shinn, of 948 North Court street, who died at 11:30 p.m. Friday at the Veterans’ hospital in Des Moines, will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Johnson’s chapel. The Rev. W.R. Keesey, D.D. retired Methodist district superintendent, will be in charge. Burial will be in Ottumwa cemetery. Shinn was a member of the First Methodist church and a past master councilor of James E. Wilson chapter, Order of DeMolay. He was graduated from Ottumwa high school in 1940. He had been an employee of the Dain Manufacturing Co. for two years prior to entering the service. Inducted January 29, 1943, at Des Moines, he became a clerk in the medical corps, and took his basic training at Camp Berkley, Texas. He was transferred to Canada June 11, 1943. He contracted rheumatic fever July 26, 1943, from which he failed to recover. Because of his physical condition he was discharge from the service December 17, 1943. A native of Corning, Shinn was born April 21, 1923, the son of Leo B. and Mary Shinn. Besides his parents he is survived by a sister, Lorraine and his grandmother, Mrs. Lena Peterson, of Omaha. Pallbearers for the funeral service will be R.T. Emery, Joe Curran, William Bellville, Charles Poncy, John Luke and Robert Blankenship.

Amos J. Shinn, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo B. Shinn of 984 North Court street, died at 11:20 p.m. Friday at the veterans hospital in Des Moines. Well known in Ottumwa, Amos had been in the U.S. Army service until he was discharged recently because of ill health. He is survived by his parents and one sister, Lorraine. The body was to be brought to Ottumwa and the Johnson funeral chapel today.
