U.G. Reed, Native Of County, Dies At 79

Ulyssus Grant Reed, 79, who lived practically his entire life in or near Ottumwa, died at 11 p.m. Saturday at his home, 143 North Ransom street. The son of Park and Martha Reed, he was born in Wapello county March 27, 1864. With the exception of a few months he lived in Garden City, Kansas, he resided in this area all his life. He was a member of the Empire lodge, No. 260, A.F.&A.M. Surviving are his wife, Mary Frances; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Stimits, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Mrs. Gertrude Nelson, Neah Bay, Washington; a brother Samuel Reed of the state of Washington, three grandsons and three great grandsons. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Johnson funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. C.R. Reed, assisted by the Rev. A.D. McClure. Masonic services will be held at the grave in Brooks cemetery.
