Funeral services for Patrick E. Maloney, 70, above an Ottumwa merchant for 45 years who died Saturday afternoon after an extended illness, will be held Tuesday morning. There will be a service at 8:30 at the Maloney home, 316 North Jefferson street, and at 9 o’clock at the St. Mary’s Catholic church where the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J.M. Walsh will celebrate the requiem high mass. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Mr. Maloney was born April 7, 1873 at Machunk Pennsylvania, the son of Edward and Mary Maloney. When he was 2 years old the family returned to Ireland where he lived until 1893, when he returned to the United States. After travelling through the south for a year, he came to Ottumwa to make his home with an uncle, the late William Maloney. Patrick Maloney worked at the John Morrell & Co. plant until 1908 when he entered the employ of the late J.B. Sax at the Model Clothing store. In 1908 J.B. Sax he has been secretary and treasurer of the company since that time. He was a member of the St. Mary’s church, the Holy Name Society Knights of Columbus, the Elks lodge, and the Merchants Exchange, of which he was a director. He is survived by his wife, Edan; daughter, Mrs. W.R. Barger, and granddaughter Patricia, of Leon; one grandson Corporal William E. Barger at Fort Sill, Oklahoma a sister, Mrs. Mary Byrne of Donegal, Ireland and cousins, Margarette and John Maloney of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Frances Akes of Tracy, California. Members of the Home Name Society, Knights of Columbus and Catholic Daughters of America, will meet at 8 o’clock tonight at the Maloney home to recite the Rosary. Pallbearers at the funeral Tuesday will be Herbert Vaughan, Clarence Crable, Harvey Hartsuck, Tom Tracy, Dave Laney and Mike Mier.
