George E. Barnes Dies At Age Of 52
George E. Barnes, 52, of 1012 East Second street, died at 1:55 a.m. today at the Ottumwa hospital. He was born February 9, 1891 in Ottumwa the son of Joseph and Frances Barnes. He is survived by his wife, Hazel; three daughters, Margaret and Catherine of Ottumwa. Mrs. Kitty Schorr of Chicago; a son, Albert of Ottumwa; two grandchildren. He was a C.B. & Q. railroad freight conductor, having served in that capacity since February 14, 1938, and had worked for the Burlington since September 4, 1912. He started as a fireman and later transferred to train service. He was secretary of the B. of R. T. lodge No. 12 and was a member of Empire lodge, 269, A.F. & A.M. , Clinton chapter No. 31, R. & S.M. Scottish Rite consistory at Des Moines and Kasha temple of the Mystic Shrine at Davenport. He was a member of the Wesley Methodist church. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Wesley church, in charge of the Rev. R.C. Keagy. The body will remain at the Traul funereal chapel until 12:00 p.m. Monday when it will be taken to the church to remain until the hour of the service. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery.
Funeral services for George Barnes, 1012 East Second street, C.B. & Q. railroad freight conductor, who died at the Ottumwa hospital Saturday morning, were held this afternoon at the Wesley Methodist church. The pallbearers were; David Wren, E.I. Mowery, C.O. Davis, C.C. Nicholas, R.A. Schultz and F.L. Davis. Masonic services were held at the grave in Shaul cemetery.
