Youth Dies As He Grabs A Live Wire
Instant death came to 18-year-old Kenneth Epperson, employee of the Ottumwa Ice Co. Monday afternoon when the young man grabbed hold of a 220-volt electric wire while working in the ice plant. Firemen attempted to revive the victim with an inhalator without result. County Coroner Gordon Traul said he believed the young man died instantly. An employee of the company for about a week, Epperson was the son of Mr. and Mrs. V.W. Epperson of Glenwood, Missouri. The body was removed to Lancaster Missouri Monday night. After investigation the electrocution, Coroner Traul said Epperson had stepped on top of a container used in freezing ice in an effort to remove the ice, which apparently had not been let in a warming tank long enough he reached up to a top beam intending to shake the container. In so doing said Traul he touched the live cable which carries the heat.
