B.L. Bowne, Ice Company Head, Dies
Burdette L. Bowne, 68, veteran Ottumwa businessman died suddenly at his home, 216 East Maple avenue at 1:30 p.m. today of a heart attack. He was operator of the Ottumwa Ice Co. on Church street and has had ice and bottling interests in the city, Bloomfield and Fairfield. He also was interested in farming and livestock breeding. Mr. Bowne had apparently been in good health until this morning when he complained of chest pains. He came to Ottumwa from Trenton, Missouri, in 1916 when he purchased the Cummings Ice Co. Prior to that time he had been in the utilities business in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He had attended Princeton, University. Survivors include his wife; two daughters Mrs. William King, Great Neck, Long Island New York, and Miss Barbara Bowne, Ottumwa, a son Benjamin Bowne, Ottumwa; obit cut off at this point.
Funeral arrangements for Burdette L. Bowne, 68, Ottumwa businessman above, who died suddenly Wednesday afternoon at the home, have not been completed. It is expected however, that services will be either Saturday or Sunday. Mr. Bowne operator of the Ottumwa Ice Co. who was born at Hastings, Michigan and was a graduate of Princeton university.
Funeral services for Burdette L. Bowne operator of the Ottumwa Ice Co. who died Wednesday at his home 216 East Maple avenue, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Lester Jay funeral home with the Rev. Louis H. Matheus pastor of the Trinity Episcopal church officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank von Schrader, M.C. Gilmore, G.B. Baker, W.T. Harper, H.L. Pollard, J.N. Weidenfeller and Warren H. Ferguson. Active pallbearers are to faint to copy.
