George Millard, 84, and a lifelong resident of Wapello County, died at 12:05 a.m. today at the home of his son Oliver Millard of Ottumwa route 2. Mr. Millard was born in Missouri the son of Samuel and Elizabeth Millard and came with his family to this community when he was six months old. He is survived by the following four daughters and five sons; Herbert Millard, Sacramento, California, Spencer Millard, Des Moines, Oliver Millard, Ira Millard and Harold Millard all of Ottumwa; Mrs. Vesteen Knox and Mrs. Exel Patrick, both of Ottumwa; Mrs. Nannie Schwartz, Ottumwa route 5, and Mrs. Elizabeth Shields, Fairfield, route 4. He is also survived by 34 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren with five of the grandsons in the armed forces. One brother, Henry Millard of Loveland, Colorado, and the following four sisters also survive; Mrs. Amanda Connor, Chattanooga, Oklahoma; Mrs. Viola Angel and Mrs. Carrie Norland, both of Blacksburg, and Mrs. Martha Lundy, Bellflower, California. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Lorena Millard, who died in 1936 and by two children Effie and Emmett Millard. The body is at the Johnson funeral home pending the completion of funeral arrangements.
Funeral services for George Millard, who died at the home of his son, Oliver Millard, Ottumwa, route 2, Monday morning, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Finley Avenue Baptist church in charge of the Rev. Thurman Bowen. Burial will be in Brooks cemetery. The casket will be taken to the home of Mr. Millard’s grandsons, Cecil Patrick, Forrest Millard, Ivan Schwartz, Everett Shields, Lawrence Schwartz and Harry Millard.
