Woman Stricken On a Train; Dies Here

Mrs. Thelma Ruth Lewis, 22, a resident of Oklahoma City, died at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Ottumwa hospital after being taken from a Milwaukee train early Wednesday morning because of illness. Mrs. Lewis was en route from her home in Oklahoma City to Cedar Rapids and was accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Thurlow Landis, and her two small children. As the train reached Ottumwa at about 2 o’clock Wednesday morning, Ms. Lewis fell in the aisle and was removed from the train and taken to the hospital. Her mother, Mrs. Landis, had been in Oklahoma City on a visit and the party was returning to the Cedar Rapids home of Mrs. Lewis’ parents. Mr. Landis came to Ottumwa Thursday and took Mrs. Landis and the two Lewis children. Presley Gene and Judy Ann Lewis, to Cedar Rapids this morning. Mrs. Lewis was born June 8, 1922, in Sharon Kansas. She is survived by her parents, her husband, Presley Lewis, and their two children. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. L.O. Owens of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Curtis Leroy Landis, with the Army overseas, and Marvin T. Landis of Mt. Vernon. The body is at the Carroll Reece funeral home.
