Hangs Self With Ropes Made of Sacks
County Coroner Gordon Traul today pronounced as suicide the death of George W. Boyd, 47, found hanging in a barn on the Lawrence Glenn farm, seven miles west of Ottumwa on the Eddyville road late Monday. Glenn, his employer, found the body dangling on the end of a rope made of grain sacks upon his return from Ottumwa. A note telling of suicide intentions was found among Boyd’s belongings the coroner said. Boyd had been working on the farm about eight weeks, according to Traul and Sheriff Mike Mier who investigated the case. The man had been employed at odd jobs for the past few years, including work near Bloomfield and Davenport. He was born June 11, 1895 in Jefferson county the son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Boyd, now living at Fairfield. Besides his parents he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Jessie Duncan of Ottumwa, and a brother John Boyd Jr. Newton, Missouri. The body was removed to the Traul funeral chapel pending arrangements.
