Earl W. (Rudy) Hicks, 37, whose home was at 522 East Second street, died at 6:45 p.m. Sunday at Ottumwa hospital. Mr. Hicks was well known in Ottumwa where he had done work as a tree surgeon over a period of a number of years. More recently he had been a guard at the Iowa ordinance plant near Burlington. He had been ill five weeks. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hicks, he was born in Agency, February 3, 1906. He was a graduate of the Agency high school class of 1923 and attended the University of California. He married Miss Edna Orris on June 24, 1936, in Lancaster, Missouri. She survives as do his parents, of Agency, a sister Mrs. Glenn Sammons, Moline, Illinois, a brother, Lt. L.C. Hicks, Junction City, Kansas, two half-brothers, Philip A. and Eugene C. McSparen, Ottumwa. Mr. Hicks was a member of the Eagles. The body is at the Carroll Reece funeral home pending arrangements.
Funeral services for E.W. (Rudy) Hicks, 522 East Second street, who died Sunday at Ottumwa hospital, will be held at the Carroll Reece funeral home at 2 p.m. Wednesday in charge of the Rev. Harold Roberts, pastor of the first Christian church. Burial will be in the Agency cemetery. Pallbearers will be Merwin Taylor, Ed Dornsife, Donald Reedquist, Lawrence Ryan, Clarence Young and Dan Findlay.
