Charles Scott Dies At Age 71
Charles E. Scott, 71, died at 5:30 a.m. today at his home 514 Ogden street. He was born March 17, 1872, in Keokuk. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary L. Scott; one sister, Mrs. Ida Berry of Kenloch, Missouri, and one nephew, W.M. Hampton of Keokuk. He was a member of the Mt. Zion A.M.E. church and a former member of the board of trustees of the church. He was also a member and the secretary of Fredrick Douglas lodge No. 11,055, I.O.O.F. The body will remain at the Lester Jay funeral home until the funeral arrangements and completed. Funeral services for Charles E. Scott, who died early Tuesday at his home at 514 Ogden street, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday from the Mt. Zion A.M. E. church. The Rev. William M. Shaw, pastor of the Second Baptist church. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery at Keokuk. Scott had been employed by John Davis for more that 32 years, first at the Iowa café and later at the Davies place on Second street.
