Lyle H. Hervey of Ottumwa, who is believed to have perished in the flames of the Burlington depot this morning, was employed by the railroad’s civil engineering department. He is believed to have been sleeping in the building at the time of the fire broke out and apparently was trapped. Firemen are said to have seen a body during the time they were fighting the flames, at about the place where the Ottumwan was sleeping. Mr. Hervey was 30 years old. He was a graduate of the Ottumwa high school and attended the University of Iowa for three-and one-half years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Celestine M. Hervey of 602 Blake street, and by three children, Patricia, Billy and Michael Hervey, all at home. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hervey of 115 North Green street and Mrs. Myron McCaughey of Williamsville, New York and by his grandmother, Mrs. Mattie Hervey of South English. The body of Lyle H. Hervey, 30, who died in the flames of the C.B. & Q. railroad depot at Burlington early Wednesday, was recovered from the wreckage late Thursday and brought to Ottumwa. Mr. Hervey, a life-long resident of Ottumwa was employed in the civil engineering department of the railroad at Burlington and was asleep in the station at the time of the fire. Three others lost their lives in the station and all bodies have been removed. The four were trapped on the second floor of the station. Funeral services for Mr. Hervey will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Carroll Reece funeral home with the Rt. Rev. Msg. J.M. Walsh V.F. in charge. The Rev. Herbert A. Keck D.D, will assist at the burial in Calvary cemetery. Pallbearers will be William Treneman, Monte Moorhead, Melvin Hallberg, C.P. Leinhauser, John Rater and Dwain Curtis.
