Gilbert F. Knox, 51, formerly employed here with the Burlington railroad, died suddenly at 5:30 a.m. March 5 while at work as a switchman for the Southern Pacific railroad at Mojave, California. He was the son of Robert F. and Laura Jane Knox and was born at Chillicothe, Illinois, June 30, 1891. He was with the Burlington from 1920-1922. He then moved to Omaha for 13 years but had been living in California since last September. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. Survivors include two sons, Ralph W. Knox of the Navy, and Sergeant Arthur C. Knox at Camp Cook, California, a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Anderson of Denver, Colorado, three grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. H.E. Colson of Ottumwa. The body will arrive in Ottumwa Wednesday morning and will be taken to the Johnson funeral chapel pending funeral services and burial here.
Funeral services for Gilbert F. Knox, former Ottumwan who died last Friday at Mojave, California, will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Johnson funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. L. E. Welshons of the First Church of the Open Bible. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn cemetery. Pallbearers will be Don Matheney, Harry Herman, Berle Lint, Bert Shepard, Harry Carson and William Rogers.
