Fred M. Hartman, prominent provisions broker and president of the F.H. Hartman Co. died at 12:35 p.m. today at the St. Joseph hospital after a brief illness. He had only recently returned from a winter visit in Hot Springs, Arkansas. A life-long resident of Ottumwa he was born September 30, 1888, the son of Sol and Emma Lacey Hartman both of whom preceded him in death. His father died in 1918 and his mother on July 17 this year. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bess Hartman and by one sister, Mrs. J.J. VanEvra of Kansas City. He was a life member of the Ottumwa lodge of Elks and was also a member of the Willard Street Methodist church. The body is at the Lester Jay funeral home where it will remain pending completion of funeral arrangements.
Funeral services for Fred H. Hartman, who died Friday at St. Joseph hospital will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday from the Lester Jay funeral home. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. J.M. Walsh, will have charge of the services and interment will be in Ottumwa cemetery. The active pallbearers will be Fred Fritz, Arthur Beck, Warren H. Ferguson, Max Von Schrader, Clem Mikesh, and Verlin Johnson. the honorary pallbearers, Fred Kent, W.H. McElroy, H.L. Pollard, A.W. Lowenberg, C.,C. Lowenberg, Frank Von Schrader and Dr. H.W. Vinson. the body will be at the Hartman residence, 202 East Pennsylvania avenue, Saturday evening.
