Ottumwan Dies In A Truck Cab
Herbert Wilcox 27, Ottumwa truck driver, was found dead in the cab of a parked truck at Burlington shortly after 8 a.m. today. Coroner R.O. Giles of Des Moines county said the death was due to monoxide fumes. Burlington firemen tried for more than an hour to resuscitate him but without success. Wilcox was employed by the Walter R. Young trucking company of Ottumwa for about a month. He left Ottumwa last night with a load of meat in time to arrive in Burlington about 4 a.m. The coroner said the victim apparently had stopped his truck and left the motor running while he went to sleep. Wilcox has been rooming at 313 North Moore street. Survivors include two children. Funeral services for Herbert Leo Wilcox, 22, of 319 North Moore street, who died early Friday of carbon monoxide poisoning while asleep in a truck at Burlington, will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson funeral chapel, conducted the Rev. A.D. McClure. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. The son of Timothy and Ivah Wilcox, he was born in Wapello county, July 3, 1920. He had lived in Ottumwa for 15 years. Survivors include his wife, Yovonne; two daughters, Deatte and Marlene and three brothers, Loren and Keith Wilcox of Ottumwa and Quentin Wilcox of Illinois. Wilcox had driven a truck owned by Walter Young, Ottumwa, to Burlington just previous to the death.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday for Herbert Wilcox, 22, who died at Burlington, early Friday morning as a result of breathing carbon monoxide fumes while sleeping in the cab of his truck. Rites were held at Johnson's funeral chapel with the Rev. A.D. McClure in charge. His wife, two children and three brothers survive. Pallbearers were Richard Graham, Forrest Smith, Roscoe Smith, Paul Heckert, Harvey Easton and John Heatherlington
