Edward Mahoney Dies At 74; Native Ottumwan
Edward Mahoney, 74, of 1156 North Elm street, died at 5:45 p.m. Friday after a brief illness. He was born April 22, 1867, in Ottumwa, the son of the late Michael and Rosa Mahoney. He was a lifelong resident of Ottumwa. He attended Ottumwa public schools and business college, and for many years was employed at the Harper McIntire whole sale hardware company. Three sisters, Mrs. John T. Brady and Alice and Mary Mahoney preceded him in death. Surviving are three sisters, Kathryn, and Julia Mahoney and Mrs. Josephine Fiedler; four nieces, Kathryn A., Rosa C. and Mary Louise Brady and Mrs. Walter E. Smith; one nephew, John T. Brady Jr. and a grandniece and grandnephew, Rosa C. and John T. Smith, all of Ottumwa. Funeral services will be held Monday morning. A solemn requiem high mass will be celebrated at the St. Mary's Catholic church by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J.M. Walsh, V.F. assisted by the Rev. James A. Brady pastor of St. Anne's church at Welton and the Rev. Joseph Pound of St. Mary's church. St. Mary's junior choir and Miss Kathryn Glenn will sing at the mass. Serving as pallbearers will be Glenn Felix, Evan, John Moon, Thomas Keefe Jr. Martin O'Hara, Joseph N. Wagner, A. Schwartz and Francis Mullin. Burial will be in the Calvary cemetery.
