Native Of County Dies At Age Of 82

John William Carr, 82, of 145 South Fellows avenue, died at his home at 11:05 p.m. Saturday. The son of Samuel B. and Eliza Carr, he was born in Wapello county April 28, 1859. He had been a resident of Ottumwa practically all his life. He was a member of the East End Presbyterian church. On December 22, 1881, he married Frances E. Barnes, at Oskaloosa, Kansas. She preceded him in death October 27, 1935. Surviving are four sons, Fred, Elmer, William and G. Herbert of Ottumwa, a daughter, Mrs. Edith Barton, Ottumwa; 16 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Susan McClellan Buffalo, New York, and a brother Joseph H. Carr, Rutledge. He was preceded in death by three daughters and one granddaughter. He had been an employee of John Morrell & Co. for 31 years, until his retirement in 1938. Short services will he be held from the residence, 145 South Fellow avenue, at 3 p.m. Tuesday, and at 3:30 p.m. from the East End Presbyterian church in charge of the rev. George T. Hubbard of the church. Burial will be in the Memorial Lawn cemetery. The casket will be taken to the residence from Johnson's chapel at 5 p.m. today. Pallbearers will be Mathew Gilbert and Elmer E. Carr, Earl Mooney, Bud Fuller and W. Harold Barton.
