Fred Hall Merchant Dies At 68
Fred Holland Hall, president of Hall-Ekfelt Furniture Co. and prominent in the business life of Ottumwa for 45 years, died at his home, 600 North Court street, at 5 a.m. Sunday. He had been seriously ill and confined to his bed since last September. Mr. Hall was born in Mt. Pleasant October 31, 1873, the son of Adina Brackett Hall and Emma Corinne Hall. He was educated at Wellington, Kansas, high school and at business college in Burlington. He entered the employment of Wyman & Rand Furniture Co. in Burlington, and later was a manager of the branch in Hannibal, Missouri.
To Ottumwa In 1897
He married Lucy Crandall Kirshbaum in Burlington in October, 1897. The couple moved to Ottumwa that month, and Mr. Hall became manager of the Wyman & Rand store here. In 1902 he brought out the Wyman & Rand Carpet Co. and the Wyman-Rand-Kerr Co. Ottumwa stores, and formed the Hall-Ekfelt Furniture Co. He became president of the company and remained so until his death. Mr. Hall was president of the Hall Ekfelt Co. of Waterloo, which was established in 1906 and discontinued in 1929. He was also president of the Hall-Ekfelt Inc. of Cedar Rapids from the establishment in 1912 until his death.

Honorary pallbearers will be Chester Whitmore, Warren Ferguson, Walter McNett, Frank Von Schrader, George M. Kerns, Merril Gilmore, George M. Foster, T. Henry Foster, Greenleaf Merill Sr. and Frank P. Hofmann.
