Retired Railway Fireman Is Dead
Charles E. Jennings, 65, retired fireman on the Burlington railroad, died at his home, 113 South Elm street, at 9 p.m. Sunday. He was born in Agency December 24, 1876. He was the son of Martha and Joseph Jennings. He began work for the Burlington in 1899, and retired July 11, 1940, because of ill health. Mr. Jennings was a member of the Wesley Methodist church, local lodge No. 16 A.F.&A.M. and A.M. the Royal Arch lodge, the brotherhood of locomotive engineers, the brotherhood of firemen and the Burlington veterans. Surviving are his wife, Nora, a daughter Mrs. Lealla Vaught of Ottumwa, two grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Jack Turner, of Rockford, Illinois and a brother, Oscar of Ottumwa. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Carroll Reece Funeral home, in charge of the Rev. J.B. Johnson. Burial will be in the Ottumwa cemetery. Masonic services will be held at the grave. Pallbearers will be engineers and firemen of the Burlington.
Funeral services for Charles E. Jennings, 65, who died Sunday, were held at 2:30 p.m. today from the Carroll Reece funeral home. Burial was in the Ottumwa cemetery. Mr. Jennings was a retired engineer for the Burlington railroad. Pallbearers were fellow workers, E.M. Epperson, John I. Jones, T.E. Lyman, A.B. Scharif, George McIntosh and Floyd Withers.
