George Edward Chapman, Veteran Farmer, Dies.
George Edward Chapman 82, well-known farmer in the Chillicothe area, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ethel Vanderpol, near Chillicothe at 10:15 a.m. today. He had been in failing health for several months. Mr. Chapman had lived on his farm in Monroe county, three and one half miles southwest of Eddyville, for 50 years, up to his retirement nine years ago. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Mae Campbell of Ottumwa, Mrs. Jennie Vanderpol of Albia, Mts. Wilda Newquist of Agency, Mrs. Verda Wymore of Ottumwa and Mrs. Ethel Vanderpol; two sisters, Mrs. Marietta Brown of Ottumwa and Mrs. Daisy Stuber of Floris; one brother, Wells Chapman of Arkansas City, Kansas; 11 grandchildren and two great grand children. His wife preceded him death in 1932. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Columbia Methodist church in charge of the Rev. Lawrence Hight and the Rev. Mrs. Lawrence Higth of Chillicothe. Burial will be in the Columbia cemetery. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The body will be taken from the Community Funeral services parlors in Ottumwa to the Vanderpol home Saturday at 4 p.m. and will remain there until the services.
