J.M. Chapman Arrived In Covered Wagon
John M. Chapman 77, Ottumwa route 4, died Monday at his home. He had been ill for three months. Mr. Chapman was born in Greencastle, Indiana February 11, 1864. He came to Wapello county in 1873 in a covered wagon and had lived here since. He was married to Miss Margaret Coughlin November 13, 1901. Surviving are his wife; daughters Josephine, May and Mrs. Robert Staton, all of Ottumwa; son Mike at home, brothers William, Frank and Charles all of Ottumwa, sisters, Mrs. Joseph McConaha of Davenport, Mrs. Jim Pickler of Ottumwa route 4, Mrs. Velma Hill of Bettendorf, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son William. Services will be Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Staton, 1050 Bruce street and at 9 a.m. in St. Patrick's Catholic church, where requiem high mass will be celebrated by the Rev. T.C. Donohoe. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Members of General Shields council No. 888 Knights of Columbus, will meet at the home on Third street Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. to go in a body to the Staton home to recite the rosary.
