John A. Murphy Dies In East
John Arthur Murphy, 84, former Ottumwan died at his home in Scarsdale, N.Y. Tuesday. He had been living with his daughter, Mrs. C.L. Stong. Mr. Murphy was born in Lowell, Mass. November 10, 1856. He was married in 1884 to Miss Sarah Bowes. He lived in Ottumwa for 56 years. Surviving are daughters Mrs. D. J. Lilly of Milwaukee, Mrs. Tong, Mrs. F.R. McDaniel of Ottumwa; sons, John J. Murphy of Marshalltown, Tom Murphy of Ottumwa and Arthur W. Murphy of Milwaukee; 22 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah, and a daughter, Mrs. Lonnie Long. Services will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic church, conducted by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J.M. Walsh V.F. pastor. The body will arrive late today and will be taken to the Lester Jay funeral home until time for services. Pallbearers will be David Bowes, Walter Osborn, Court Williams, Frank Bowes, Fred McDaniel and Paul McDaniel.
