Carothers Rites Set

BATAVIA - Clara M. Carothers, 67, died Monday evening at Jefferson County Hospital where she had been a patient the past three weeks.

She was born Oct. 24, 1910 in Wapello County, the daughter of Hervey and Effie Long Smith. A resident of Batavia since 1917, she was a member of Bladensburg Christian Church. She married Verne Carothers Sept. 9, 1937. He survives.

Also surviving are one son, James of Batavia; one granddaughter; one sister, Marjorie Giltner of Batavia and one brother, Charles Smith of Ottumwa.

Services will be Thursday, 1:30 p.m., at Campbell Funeral Chapel in Batavia with the Rev. Tom Felts officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to Bladensburg Christian Church.
