Donald L. Eakins

BATAVIA - Donald L. Eakins, 65, of Batavia, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1993, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Campbell-Kremer Funeral Home in Batavia with the Rev. David Allen officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery. Visitation is open after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with family visitation from 7:30 to 8:30. Memorials have been established to Kilwinning Masonic Lodge at Batavia and the Batavia Veterans Memorial at Batavia Cemetery.

Eakins was born Sept. 28, 1927, in Ottumwa, the son of Marion L. and Correl L. Draper Eakins. He was reared and educated in Ottumwa, graduating from Ottumwa (High School.) (He married) Jacqueline Davis on April 1, (1???), in Batvia. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1945 to (19??). (He) was a mechanic for the Deb John Implement Dealership Inc., in Batavia for 20 years and was employed by Ottumwa Regional Health Care Cemetery for 15 years, retiring in 1986. He served on the Batavia City Council for 25 years, was (a) member of Kilwinning Masonic Lodge 198, W.C. Harness American Legion Post 667 of Batavia, (and) served in the Batavia Volunteer Fire Department for 43 years.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Randy D. of Batavia, Joey E. of Eldon; four grandchildren; three sisters, Lois Fisher of Cedar Rapids, Gearldine Thompson of Eldon (and) Jean Van Gorp of Ottumwa. (His) parents, a brother, Ronald, a sister Leona Reeve, preceded (him in death.)
