LaVerne Payne, 70, of Agency died at 3:05 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2014.
A funeral is planned for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, with the Rev. Tom Shipley officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation began at 9 a.m. today, with the family present from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to Calvary Baptist Church in Batavia.
Mr. Payne was born July 27, 1944, in Ottumwa, the son of Lawrence and Jessie Enloe Payne. He married Gaylene Van Rucke Dec. 6, 1964. She died Aug. 4, 2012. He married Sharon McCleary Nov. 19, 2013.
A graduate of Batavia High School, he farmed north of Batavia for 40 years. He worked 30 years for John Deere Ottumwa Works retiring in 1996.
He attended Calvary Baptist Church in Batavia.
He enjoyed farming, camping, spending time with friends and family.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon; twin daughters, Terri Ann Huffman and husband Rick of Sigourney and Sherri Lynn Greiner of Agency; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one stepson, Tom McCleary and wife Jeannine of Fairfield; one step-daughter, Sandy Martin of Muscatine; three stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandson; and one brother, Larry Dean Payne of Ottumwa.
