Dora May Sample was born near Delmore, McPherson, Kansas, May 11, 188, and died at her home three miles northwest of Belknap October 20. She had not been well for several months but was up and around until the day before she died. She was taken seriously ill Monday noon and died the following morning. She leaves a father, mother, one brother and three sisters and other relatives, besides a host of friends to mourn her loss. The burial services were held at her home, conducted by Rev Perry Heckart, October 21, after which the remains were interred in the Sherman Cemetery. -Ottumwa Tri-weekly newspaper, November 1903.
