TRAPPED BY FLOOD -
GEORGE JORDAN DIESGeorge W. Jordan, 60, a resident of the flooded area in Central addition, died shortly after 4 a.m. today at the John Welch home on South Wapello street.
Because the Welch house was shut off by water, Welch took a boat and went for Coroner Gordon Traul when it was feared Jordan had died in his sleep.
The coroner examined the body and decided that Mr. Jordan had died of natural causes, after which it was placed in a boat and was rowed to dry land, north on Wapello street.
It is understood that Jordan was en route to his own home Thursday night, but stopped at the Welch residence because of high water. There he was offered a place to spend the remainder of the night.
The son of Leonard and Mary Jordan, he was born August 18, 1885, in Ottumwa and had lived here his entire life.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Lillie Davis, Ottumwa; and two nephews, Alex and Roy Davis, both of Ottumwa.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Johnson funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. A. D. McClure. Burial will be in Ottumwa cemetery.
