Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” March 8, 1944:
Joe Hanrahan, 76, died at 12:30 a.m. today at his home, 418 Foster avenue. He was born December 25, 1877 at St. Joseph, Mo., and came to Ottumwa when a small boy.
He was an employe of John Morrell & Co. here for 60 years, retiring in 1938. His wife, Mrs. Eva Walker Hanrahan, died April 20, 1943. He is survived by one son, Bernard Hanrahan of Ottumwa and a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Scieszinski of Ottumwa, and by the following five stepchildren: Mrs. Stella Walker, Walter Walker, Mrs. Ruby Dimmick and Mrs. Lola Rhoads, all of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Vera Reynolds of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and by one sister, Mrs. H.P. Miner of Ottumwa.
Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Friday from the Vaughan funeral chapel at 916 East Second street and at 9 o’clock from the Sacred Heart Catholic church where a requiem high mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Father J.H. Courtney. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn cemetery.
Members of the Holy Name society will meet at the Vaughan funeral chapel at 8 p.m. Thursday to recite the rosary.
