Obituary From “Ottumwa Daily Courier,” Tuesday, February 22, 1949:
JAMES I. HARL.
James I. (Cap) Harl, 72, of 418 South Ferry street, died Monday at 11 p.m. at the St. Joseph hospital.
The son of Molly and Benton Harl, he was born August 19, 1876, in Memphis, Mo. He had lived in the Ottumwa community for the past 30 years and was a retired employe of the Burlington railroad.
Mr. Harl is survived by his wife, May; one son, Charles Harl of Ottumwa; two daughters, Mrs. Elmer Smith and Mrs. Ernest Gobble, both of Ottumwa; one sister, Mrs. Clara Love of Carmen, Okla.; three half-brothers and two half-sisters. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
His parents and one son preceded him in death.
The body is at the Johnson Funeral chapel pending completion of arrangements.
“HARL SERVICES,” From “Ottumwa Daily Courier,” Wednesday, February 23, 1949:
Funeral services for James I. (Cap) Harl of 418 South Ferry street, who died Monday night at the St. Joseph hospital, will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson funeral chapel, in charge of the Rev. W.B. Friend of the Pentecostal church. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Lester Morehouse, Paul Irving, Russell Venator, Roscoe Owens, Kenneth Goodwin and Lee Harness.
