William H. Ulin

William H. Ulin, formerly of Fairfield, died of cancer at his home near Manassas, Virginia, on August 6, 2014. He passed peacefully, surrounded by loving family. He was 67.

According to his wishes, Bill's body was cremated following a memorial service in Virginia. His ashes will be interred in Pennington Cemetery south of Sigourney on Sunday, September 14 at 1:30 pm.

Bill Ulin was born in Fairfield on December 13, 1946, the son of Forest (Frosty) Ulin and Oma May Sands Ulin. He was raised in Fairfield and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1965, developing a reputation as a basketball star. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at St. Ambrose University and a Masters of Business Administration degree from Florida Institute of Technology.

Bill served 24 years on active duty in the U.S. Army, specializing in ammunition and nuclear weapons logistics. After retirement, he pursed careers in the recycling industry and private security. Bill was looking forward to retiring to Savannah, GA, where he and his wife own a home.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Catherine (Kitty) Monroe of Manassas, VA; two daughters, Jennifer Cerny and son-in-law Chip of Clemmons, NC, and Christine Burnett of Manassas, VA, and son-in-law Keith; their mother, Melitta Lentz of Clemmons, NC; a grandson, Hunter Cerny; a sister, Jane Connolly of Waverly; and a nephew, John Connolly of San Diego, CA.
