Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” April 18, 1950:

Veteran Deere Man Dies While At Work

Arthur Craton Carpenter, 58, of 901 East Mary street, died suddenly while working at the John Deere Ottumwa Works at 9:10 a.m. today.

The son of Robert and Etta Carpenter, he was born December 2, 1891, in Carrolltown, Mo. He came to Ottumwa in 1910 and had worked at the Deere plant here for 38 years.

Mr. Carpenter is survived by his wife, Ann; two sons, Donald A. of Ottumwa and Eugene A. Carpenter of Fowler, Colo.; one daughter, Mrs. Clyde Hawkins of Ottumwa; one stepson, Stanley N. Stevens of Ottumwa; eight grandchildren, and two half-brothers, Paul Carpenter of Ottumwa and Roy E. Carpenter of Los Angeles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.

The body is at the Johnson funeral chapel pending completion of arrangements.

“CARPENTER FUNERAL,” From “Ottumwa Courier,” April 19, 1950:

Funeral services for Arthur C. Carpenter, 58, of 901 East Mary street, who died suddenly wihle at work at the John Deere Ottumwa Works Tuesday morning, will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson funeral chapel in charge of the Rev. Jack Card of the Open Bible church.

Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. Pallbearers will be Raymond Christy, Lawrence Osborne, Harold Rice, Roy Potorff, Virgil Carlisle and Orville Agee.
