Vernon Edward Craft

Vernon Edward Craft, 92, died Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

A funeral is at 10 a.m., Friday at Suburban Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Parker, the Rev. Gary Craft and the Rev. Richard Dennis officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Memorial Lawn in Ottumwa.

Visitation for family and friends is 4-6 p.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home.

Vernon Edward Craft

Vernon Edward Craft, 92, died Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

A funeral is at 10 a.m., Friday at Suburban Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Parker, the Rev. Gary Craft and the Rev. Richard Dennis officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Memorial Lawn in Ottumwa.

Mr. Craft was born Dec. 28, 1921, in Hastings, the son of Henry and Opal Baker Craft. He married Mary Lou Canaan Sept. 5, 1946.

He served in the Army during World War II.

He lived in Jefferson County the past 67 years.

He farmed and worked as a machinist for 21 years at Rockwell.

He was a member of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

In his spare time he enjoyed golfing.

He was a member of the Suburban Heights Baptist Church and served as a deacon for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mary Lou Craft of Fairfield; four children, Gary Craft and spouse Karen of Okinawa, Japan, Thomas Craft and spouse Callvina of Tulsa, Okla., Debbie Dennis and spouse Richard of Smithville, Texas, and Marianne Tierney and spouse Patrick "Timothy" of Pembroke, N.H.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Clayton, Lyle and Don Craft.
