Priscilla Anne Coffman

Priscilla Anne Coffman, 69, of Eldon, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.

A memorial service is at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Nick Adams officiating.

The family requests no flowers. Memorials for the American Gothic House Center and the Eldon Opera House may be sent to the family, c/o Dale Coffman, 2729 Ash Ave., Eldon 52554.

Grace Funeral Care of Eldon is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Coffman was born Oct. 1, 1944, in Essex, Maryland, the daughter of Stanley and Grace McCabe Chapman. She married Dale Coffman June 25, 1966, in Baltimore.

She was educated at St. Martin's High School in Baltimore, Anne Arundel Community College, the University of Maryland, and Towson State College, majoring in math, social services, and early childhood education.

She was retired from teaching, but continued to share her knowledge with others every day. She was an established and published writer and poet, and judged entries for the Iowa Poetry Society.

She was active in St. Mary Catholic Church.

She also was active in her community.

She served in PEO, holding varying offices, was a hospice volunteer and helped with a writing program at Fairfield nursing homes.

She helped found the SHARE program in Eldon, and had been a member of the GATE board of directors since its inception.

She was an avid gardener and enjoyed canoeing with her husband.

Survivors include her husband, Dale, of Eldon; one son, John Coffman and spouse Jean of Seymour, Indiana; one daughter, Maria Coffman and spouse Mark Katsaros of Harrisburg, Missouri; eight grandchildren; and six siblings, Elaine, Scott, Steve, Brian, Monica and Frank.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Mike.
