Obituary From “Ottumwa Daily Courier,” Saturday, June 21, 1941:

Rare Disease Fatal To Former Athlete

Aaron T. Cole, 29, O.H.S. Graduate.

Aaron Townsend Cole, 29, of 149 South Elm street, died at the Ottumwa hospital this morning at 3:10 o’clock.

An employe of John Morrell & Co., he had been ill for two weeks. His physician said death was due to a rare and invariably fatal liver condition.

Mr. Cole was born September 4, 1911, at Aurora, Mo., the son of the Rev. S.E. Cole and Mrs. Cole, former Ottumwans.

He finished three years of high school elsewhere, but took his fourth year at the Ottumwa high school, and was graduated there. During his one year in the Ottumwa school, with the class of 1931, he earned three letters in athletics, football, basketball and track.

Mr. Cole was a member of the Methodist church at Attica, Iowa.

He was married to Louise Booth, June 7, 1935, at Des Moines. She survives him, as do their twin sons, Larry and Garry, five years old, and a younger son, David. He is also survived by his parents, who live at Millersburg, and by three sisters, Mrs. George Montross, Millersburg, Mrs. H.B. Wareham, Dennison, and Mrs. E.V. Gay, Solon.

Funeral services will be held from Johnson’s funeral chapel at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, conducted by the Rev. B.F. Finsh of Thornburg, assisted by the Rev. Albert Peterson.

Pallbearers will be Roy Peterson, Denny Freeman, Kyle Bricky, Hugh Hilton, Glen Burke and Clarence Reedquist.
