Eva Ketzle "Ione" Gobble
AGENCY — Ione was called home to Heaven on Aug. 24, 2009.She was born to PC and Eva Ketzle in Mercer County, Ill., on Dec. 5, 1923.Ione is survived by her husband of 64 years, Clair Gobble; their daughter, Connie Jo Smith of Riverside, Calif.; a sister, Mary Simpson of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Jean Ketzle of Aledo, Ill.; one niece; four nephews; and many, many friends.Ione attended Reynolds High School, Reynolds, Ill., and Monmouth College, Monmouth, Ill. She was a member of Alpha XI Delta and active in all of Monmouth College's musical productions. She taught for one year at Monmouth High School before moving to Agency, Iowa, with her new husband, Clair. She resumed teaching and taught commercial subjects in both Agency High School and Cardinal school before taking a teaching position with the Ottumwa High School, where she started the Office Education on the Job Training Program.Ione was blessed with a beautiful voice and was choir director at the Agency Methodist Church for 20 years. Ione sang in many weddings and funerals. Her voice was heard by many for these happy and sad times.Upon moving to Arizona in 1970, Ione retired from teaching but found joy working for 15 years in the Mesa Public Library System and volunteering at the previous Mesa Lutheran Hospital. She was very active in her church, First United Methodist Church in Mesa, teaching Bible Study and Sunday School.Besides her family, Ione loved music, entertaining, people, but especially her Lord and God. She was a Christian all her life and brought Christ into many peoples' lives. She will be missed by all whose lives she has touched.A celebration of her life will be held at First United Methodist Church, 15 E. First Ave., Mesa, Ariz., at 2 p.m. on Sept. 5.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Hospice of the Southwest, First United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
