OTTUMWA – Richard W. Hartley, 58, of 114 S. Holt St. died August 18, 2016 at his home.

He was born September 23, 1957 in Ottumwa to George and Helen J. Ruby Hartley. He married Pennie R. Kinman January 4, 1978. She preceded him in death May 7, 2014.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1977-1979, serving aboard the USS Saipan. He had worked construction, for the Sioux Line Railroad, at Excel/Cargil Meat Solutions and for Reed & Reed.

Richard was an active member and steward of UFCW Local #230 and a member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He diligently donated blood and plasma, was a collector, loved working in the garage, and playing with his grandchildren.

Surviving is a son, Toni (Heather) Hartley of Ottumwa; a daughter, Stephanie (Joey) Iseton of Ottumwa; six grandchildren, Katie, Samantha, Eric, Ricki, Ashley and Owen; a great granddaughter on the way; a sister, Barbara (James) Mason of Bloomfield; two sisters-in-law, Roberta Roe of Ottumwa and Linda Stone of Albia; a brother-in-law, Phil (Vicki) Kinman of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Ricky Kinman.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Schlotter officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.

Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Monday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center in Ottumwa or to the Ottumwa Fire Department.
