Thomas Gardner

Thomas Gardner was born March 24, 1824 in the county of Mayo, Ireland and died April 22, 1911, aged 87 years, 28 days. He came to the United States when a young man and settled at Patterson, N.J. There he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Cochran. To this union were born four children, three of whom survive him: Anna Bradford of Denver, Colo.; Hettie Lewis, of Mills, New Mexico and W.J. Gardner of Medford, Okla.

In 1853 he came with his wife to Iowa and settled in Wapello county. His wife died March 6, 1863 and on Dec. 22, 1880 he married to Mrs. Louisa Fall. He was a member of the Episcopal church while in Ireland and after coming to this country he united with the Methodist church at Columbia, Wapello county and remained a consistent member until the time of his death.

He leaves to mourn his demise, an aged wife, three children and numerous relatives and friends. The funeral services were held at the home one and one-fourth miles east of Fredric on Monday at 1:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev. G.W. Barber of Chillicothe. Interment at Columbia cemetery.-Contributed
