Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” Monday, February 8, 1932:

JOHN JOHNSON DIES AT HOME NEAR AGENCY

John W. Johnson, 76 years old, a native of Denmark, died at his home one and one-half miles southwest of Agency, near Cliffland, at midnight, Sunday February 7.

Mr. Johnson was born in Hgoring, Denmark, October 6, 1852, and came to American at the age of 21 years. He was married to Miss Mary Louis [sic-should be Louise] Mael of old Ashland in May, 1879. He was confirmed in the Danish Lutheran church in Denmark and after coming to Iowa joined the Ashland Methodist Episcopal church. Johnson was preceded in death by three daughters and a son, Walter F. Johnson, who died in France, December 5, 1918.

He is survived by his wife, one son, Elmer Johnson of Barber, Idaho, and two daughters, Mrs. Harry Shank of Floris and Miss Erma Johnson, at home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, from Johnson’s funeral parlors at 2 p.m. from the Agency Methodist Episcopal church, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Krenmyre. Burial will be made at Agency.

The pallbearers for the Johnson services will be: Levi French, Jerry Wilson, Burr Eaton, Ralph Haines, Carroll Hallberg and John Gullet.
