Fall From Tower Fatal

MOUNT PLEASANT - Ben Edward Cloke, 27, resident of Mount Pleasant and a former resident of Eldon, was instantly killed Thursday when he fell from a water tower at Melville, La.

Employed by the National Tank Corporation of Humbolt, Tenn., he was working on the tower when he fell 275 feet to his death. He had been employed by the firm for the past two years.

Last rites will be Monday, Feb. 25, at 1 p.m. at the Beatty-Jennings Funeral Chapel in Mount Pleasant with the Rev. John Coons officiating. Burial will be in the Eldon Cemetery.

Ben Edward Cloke was born Sept. 8, 1946, at Eldon, the son of Othal and Doris Pearson Cloke. His mother is deceased.

His marriage to Helen Russell took place Oct. 16, 1969, at Burlington.

He is survived by his widow and three sons, Todd, Mark and David, all at home; his father who lives at Eldon; and a brother, John Cloke, Monterey, Calif.

Cloke served with the Armed Forces during the Korean conflict and was a member of Company B, 224th Engineer Battalion, Iowa National Guard, at Mount Pleasant.
