R. Vaught Drowning

BLAKESBURG - Robert LeRoy Vaught, 65, former resident of the Fairfield and Libertyville Communities, drowned Thursday while fishing near Lake Rathbun.

His body was found floating in the Chariton River about one-fourth mile downstream from the Rathbun Lake Dam.

Appanoose County authorities said Vaught had apparently been fishing from the river bank.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m., at the Knedler Funeral home in Blakesburg with the Rev. Darrell Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Vaught was born Feb. 25, 1909 at Libertyville, the son of Curtis and Anna Elizabeth McGaw Vaught. He graduated from Clinton High School and attended college in New Mexico for two years. He was united in marriage Feb. 17, 1945 to Juliana Thys. She died in 1958.

He was employed at Louden's and farmed near Libertyville, moving to the Blakesburg area in 1957. He sold his farm two years ago, retired, and moved to Blakesburg.

Vaught is survived by two sons, Rickie and Randy Vaught of Norwalk; one daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Marcia) Trejo of Chicago and nine grandchildren.
