Silas Ehret

Silas M. Ehret, 78, died Monday, July 17 at 9:30 p.m. at the Ottumwa Hospital. He had a stroke earlier in the evening at the home of his son, Abraham, in Eldon.

He was born April 1, 1883, in Brighton, the son of John F. and Mary Ann Rees Ehret. He lived in the Douds community many years and was a coal miner. He had lived in Eldon 18 years.

He was married in 1912 to Veda Mathias, who died in 1953. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Stanley Salts of Eldon and Mrs. Clarence Cook Jr. of Ottumwa; four sons, Abraham, Lester and Raymond of Eldon and Roscoe of Ottumwa; 14 grandchildren; a half brother, Otto Newlon of Fairfield; and a half sister, Mrs. Bessie Sievert of San Gabriel, Calif. Two sons, a daughter and a brother preceded him in death.

The service was held Wednesday, July 19 at 1:30 p.m. at the Campbell Funeral Home in Eldon. Burial was in Eldon Cemetery.
