Leo Gosney

Graveside services for Leo Gosney, 85 year old former Johnson County resident who passed away Nov. 2, in Riverton, were held Nov. 6, at 1 p.m., in Willow Grove Cemetery with Father John Apel of Riverton officiating.

Leo William Gosney was born Nov. 25, 1901 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Ralleigh and Johnna Gosney. He moved to Johnson County in 1916 and ranched west of Kaycee. In 1930 he took up a homestead in the Four- Mile area and in 1936 he went into the trucking business in Buffalo. In 1941 he moved to Thermopolis where he worked for Northern Utilities for over 20 years. He retired in 1961 and moved to a small farm near Riverton where he met and married Florence Spoonhunter. They made their home in Riverton. Florence passed away in November of 1981 and Leo continued to live in Riverton until the time of his death.

He is survived by one son, Leonard Gosney of Arapahoe, Wyo.; one daughter, Rowena Ridgley of Riverton; three brothers, Elmer Gosney and William of Kaycee and Ray “Shorty” Gosney of Buffalo; one sister, Winifred Hoosier of Rapid City, S.D.; twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother and two sisters.
