Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” December 16, 1960:

Mrs. Boyd Mael

Mrs. Fern Mael, 63, of 521 Queen Ann avenue, died at 4:40 a.m. today after a long illness.

She was born March 1, 1897, at Cincinnati, Iowa, the daughter of Willard and Bertha Beer Putman. Her marriage to Boyd Mael took place at Cincinnati in June, 1918. He survives.

Mrs. Mael was a member of the Finley Avenue Baptist church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Capt. Francis Boyd Mael stationed at the Great Falls, Mont., air force base; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother.

The body is at the Johnson funeral chapel.

“Mael Services,” From “Ottumwa Courier,” December 17, 1960:

Funeral services for Mrs. Fern Mael, 63, wife of Boyd Mael, 521 Queen Ann avenue who died at 4:40 a.m. Friday, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Johnson funeral chapel. The Rev. A.D. Pringle, pastor at Ottumwa Baptist Temple, will officiate and burial will be in Shaul cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Carl Ruhe, Irvin Palmer, Dale Rupe, Dee Leedom, Harley McClure and Homer Wagner.
