BELMONT, ISRAEL, WILLIAMS

Mrs. America M. Belmont died at her residence November 22 at 2:30 PM.

She was born in Maysville, Mason County, Kentucky, November 24, 1820. She was the mother of 10 children, seven of whom died while young, the eldest being only 11. Her husband, Dr. James B. Belmont, died in this city after a long illness, July 17, 1866. Three children survive, Mrs. Lizzie Israel and James A. Belmont, of this city, and Mrs. Clara Williams, of Chetopa, Kansas, to mourn the loss of a most devoted in kind mother. Mrs. Belmont had been a faithful and consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal church for 49 years and if there ever was a true Christian she was one. She had bad health for a great many years, and many worldly afflictions, but she braved all uncomplainingly. Modest and retiring in disposition, she was always seeking to do good to the distressed or needy. It may truly be said that none knew her but to love her.

She sat at the breakfast table the day of her demise, but could not eat. She died in perfect peace and passed away as if she were laying down to pleasant dreams.
