Ernest W. Doggett, 32 of 520 W. Mechanic St., died at 12:35 AM today at Ottumwa Hospital of a head injury sustained five hours before when a log he was about to unload from a truck rolled off and hit him.

Attending physicians said he never regained consciousness, apparently having sustained a skull fracture.

The mishap occurred at the Newt Wilson's all-male, 411 Carlyle St. Doggett and his half brother, Clarence Jordan had just arrived at the mill with a large load of logs. The victim had crawled under the truck to unloose in a chain and was getting to his feet when the top log rolled down striking him.

Doggett was born at Fairfield Iowa July 16, 1909 but had been a resident of Ottumwa for the past 14 years.

Survivors include his wife, Eva; two sons, Robert and Lewis, both of Ottumwa; two daughters Madeline and Roberta, both of Ottumwa; a stepson, William Floyd, of Ottumwa; his parents, Mrs. Maud Ramsey and Lynyrd Doggett, both of Ottumwa; three brothers, Clarence Jordan, Ottumwa Lester Dobbs, address unknown, and Glenn Doggett of the Army air Corps's, and three sisters, Mrs. Albert Jackson and Marcene Doggett, both of Ottumwa and Anna Mae Adler,

Bettendorf. He was preceded in death by his son.

The body was taken to the Johnson funeral Chapel pending arrangements.

Funeral services for Ernest W. Doggett, who died early Thursday morning following an accident while unloading a truck load of wood Wednesday night, will be held at Johnson's funeral Chapel at 1:30 PM Saturday, conducted by Maj. George Boone of the salvation army, burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery with the following as pallbearers; Glyn Springer, Clyde Randall, Ed Welch, Omar Pitsford, Floyd McAllister and Elwood Jackson.
