Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” July 15, 1978:

Hilma Josephine Sandell, 90, of 601 S. Hancock died at Ottumwa Hospital July 14 at 8:30 p.m.

She was born Aug. 7, 1887, in Sweden to Peter and Angelina Johnson. They moved to Ottumwa when she was 5. She was a member of First Lutheran Church. She married Carl O. Sandell on April 19, 1916, in Ottumwa and he died in 1958.

Survivors: daughters Ruth Phillips of Ottumwa Route 2, Martha of Ottumwa and Frances Heckart of Bloomfield Route 3; a son, Carl O. Jr. of 1549 N. Swanson; and eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Johnson Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Keith Lingwall of First Lutheran Church of Fairfield and First Lutheran Church of Ottumwa officiating. Burial: Shaul Cemetery.
