Obituary from the Ottumwa Courier 6 Oct 1913: Adam Howk, resident of Wapello County, for sixty
years died at the home of his son Adam L. Howk, 323 Church Street, at 9 o'clock this morning. Mr
Houk had been a resident of Wapello County for sixty years having settled here in 1851. He was a
veteran of the Mexican War. He is survived by four daughters and two sons. They are Mrs. Polly Ann Boone of Independence, KS, Mrs. Catherine Moss, Ormanville, Mrs. Annise Burdett of Drakesville, Mrs. Matilda Randall of Ottumwa, G. W. and Adam L. HOWK of Ottumwa. Mrs. Houk preceded her husband in death in 1908.
