AGENCY. - Benjamin D. Newman, 82, died at 3:30 a.m. today at Ottumwa Hospital following an illness of six months. He entered the hospital a week ago and had been seriously ill three weeks.

He was born Oct. 5, 1879, near Stockport, the son of John and Mary Weber Newman. He retired from the Burlington Railroad where he was employed for many years as a telegraph operator. He had lived in Agency most of the past 43 years. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the O.R.T.

His marriage to Eva Arnold took place Aug. 6, 1903. She survives, as also do two son, Bennie Newman of Agency and Dale Newman of Leon; eight grandchildren; one brother, Russell Newman of Keosauqua; and one sister, Mrs. Ada Workman of Stockport. He was preceded in death by one daughter and six brothers and sisters.

The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Agency Methodist Church with Rev. Earl McGinness in charge. The casket will be taken from the Campbell Funeral Home in Eldon to the church at 10 a.m. and will be closed at the beginning of the service. Burial will be in the Agency Cemetery.
