Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” April 25, 1935:

John Berry, 86, died at 10:55 a.m. today in his home, 302 Hamilton street. He was the son of James and Nancy Berry and was born October 18, 1848, near Drakesville in Davis county. He came to Ottumwa in 1888 and has lived here since.

He was married to Jane Hardy November 3, 1872. She preceded him in death in June, 1924. He is survived by a son, James Berry, at home; two daughters, Martha Berry at home; and Mrs. Nannie Head of Ottumwa; two brothers, S.L. Berry of Omaha, Nebraska and E.S. Berry of Ottumwa; a sister, Mrs. Mary Thompson of Belknap; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Awaiting completion of funeral arrangements the body was taken to the Johnson funeral chapel where friends may call.
